Tuesday Look: Carine Roitfeld on Style

"With French women you first see the woman and then you see the clothes. Imagine countries like Russia or China, even Eastern Europe. They don't have the culture of clothes so they want to show that they can afford to buy a Dolce & Gabbana bag, they want to show labels. In France you cannot see what labels we are wearing. It is very snobby."

Wyatt and Saturday pleasures

I've been neglecting this space since the New Year came and I was hoping to launch a Saturday List of my own. Here is one of my loves: the freckles on Wyatt's nose. I'm going to get a lot of opportunity to look at them today. I hope you're doing something that you love. Happy Saturday!

Saturday Morning Anticipation

There is a lot of excitement in our old house this morning. The ski lessons start today. For the next 7 Saturdays we make the trek to a little ski hill close to my mother's house to have our 3 little lovelies learn how to walk on skis. Yes, we could take the tree down and tidy and do laundry and work on the ice rink and and and but we will allow ourselves to fall a little further behind by moving a little further ahead and that will be a beautiful thing. Happy Saturday everyone! Enjoy whatever progress you are making today.

Tuesday Look: Sorel Sukas

Happy 2010 y'all! I have some resolutions for the New Year and most of them are for my underachieving side. I'm going to moisturize more, wear nicer underwear and stop putting up with things that don't work (cleaning lady-you are on my list), which brings me to this Tuesday Look. On the way to my mother's house for Christmas I hatefully tossed my 7 year old Columbia boots in the car for the trekking in the woods we would surely do. They are in fairly mint condition since I don't have the need for heavy duties that often but I have never liked them at all. My toes are cold and I hate tying them up and there is something about the shape of my ankle that aches in their fit. My practical side never thought of replacing them until this year. I liberated myself from the discomfort and the resentment and I plunged in to the requisite research project and presto... I own the Sukas. I'm hoping that they are a powerful metaphor for my approach to 2010. What gesture to yourself is kicking off your year?
